Celebrating 50 years of NCHA
On Sunday the 2nd August the North Central Hockey Association celebrated 50 year. Past and current members from all towns were present for the celebrations held in Charlton. The luncheon began with guest speaker Chris Chittick from Hockey Victoria who highlighted the uniqueness of our league format. Pointing out how lucky we are to be combined with football and netball and also all playing on the same day at the same time each week and the importance of its continuance, she also admired the strength of the NCHA when playing in representative competitions against metropolitan teams. Lynne Southwell then spoke of the changes to hockey over the years, from the changing rules to the varying styles of uniforms in each of the affiliated clubs. Thank you’s were made to Michelle Hargreaves, Sue Gould and Angela Poxon who were integral in putting together the North Central Hockey Association book celebrating 50 year. This will prove to be a great resource of the NCHA history in the future.
Each club representative gave a short presentation on their own club's history, integral members, and their personal experiences. Finalising the formalities was the induction of three well deserving NCHA life members presented by President Leanne Gretgrix. Claire Phyland (Wycheproof/Narraport), Michelle Hargreaves (Wedderburn), and Simone Christie (Birchip/Watchem) were recognised for both their playing and club level roles along with league contributions over many years. Congratulations to these women on their achievements and the Association on its ever strengthening role in our communities. At the end of proceeding many past members continued to reminisce and catch up with old team mates and old foes. All clubs presented a display table and everyone enjoyed looking at the old memorabilia and photo’s.
The Association still has some memorabilia for sale if anyone is interested. Contact your local club or email the association at email@example.com
