Junior Country Championships
Friday 22nd – Sunday 24th May 2015 (Inter-league Weekend)
This is a fantastic weekend of hockey, which is played on turf at major hockey centres in Melbourne. Players travel to Melbourne by bus, with players being picked up in each town on Friday afternoon. Buses transport players to hockey grounds during Saturday and Sunday and then transport players home Sunday night. It is a great opportunity to improve skills and meet other players from our Association and other Associations around the state. A team shirt is supplied but players must supply their own black shorts and red socks. We would recommend that players stay with the group, and parents are encouraged to either volunteer as helpers or attend as supporters.
In 2015 North Central will be entering 6 teams - Under 13 (2003 or older), Under 15 and Under 17 Girls and Boys.
We have many parent helpers with an approx. ratio of one adult to every four players; ensuring players are well supervised and assisted. There are contact details on the next page should you have any queries or ask your club JCC Coordinator.
Cost includes bus travel, accommodation, shirt hire, some meals, team entry fee & supplies:
- Cost for players with accommodation and bus travel: $220
- Cost for players accommodation but no travel: $70 per night (bus travel is subsidised) + $100 Entry Fee
- Cost for players with no accommodation or travel: $100 Entry Fee
- Cost for coaches, team managers and parent helpers: $100 Umpires: no cost
Some spending money will be required as the players need to pay for all meals and snacks except breakfast each morning and tea on Saturday night. The Just Hockey shop will be operating at all venues.
We welcome any assistance with coaching, umpiring, managing or as a parent helper. Please indicate if you are willing to assist by filling out the attached JCC Expression of Interest Form. We are only able to continue to compete in this event if we are able to find enough adults to fill these roles. Each team will have a coach, team manager, umpire and at least one parent helper.
Umpires are required for each team. If you are able to help out please fill out the attached JCC Expression of Interest Form. We are required to supply umpires for each team, umpiring the game directly following our games or we will have to pay $100 fine for each game we do not supply an umpire. Umpires do not have to stay or travel with the teams, so university students or older players from your clubs may be able to help out. There is no cost for umpires to travel and stay with the group. There is also umpire training available, please ask for information if you are interested.
Forms and Payment
We are trying to streamline forms and payment this year with one form covering registration, hoodie order, player profile, consent and medical details. To register the accompanying JCC Player Registration Form needs to be filled out. This form enables you to type in the boxes. Once complete save it with the player’s surname and initial attached to the file. All nomination forms must be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org by 5.00pm Tuesday 14th April to be eligible to play. No late forms will be accepted.
Full payment of the Registration Fee (cheques payable to your club), Hoodie Order and Adult Assistant must be made to your club’s JCC Coordinator by this date and the original forms, with signatures filled in, handed to them. The Filming/Photographic Consent Form from Hockey Victoria also needs to be filled in and passed on to your Club JCC Coordinator.
Clubs are encouraged to fundraise to help reduce costs, so see your club and offer some assistance.
Rules of the JCC weekend
These rules are to promote the safety and enjoyment of players and those around them:
- No caffeine-containing drinks (eg. Red Bull, Mother, etc) are permitted for the entire weekend. These drinks will be confiscated if found.
- Mobile phones are permitted – however they will be collected at 10pm each night by the Team Manager and returned to players in the morning. If parents wish to contact players after 10pm Team Managers or parent helpers may be contacted.
- All valuables are the responsibility of the players. Please consider leaving ipods and any other electronic gadgets at home as this weekend is centred around playing hockey and having a good time with other players.
- Inappropriate behaviour will NOT be tolerated. Managers will have no hesitation in ringing parents to come and collect players. Please keep in mind players have signed a Code of Conduct and many adults have given up their weekend to assist and we will be sharing accommodation with others.
For the past few years players representing the North Central Hockey Association at the Junior Country Championships in Melbourne have worn red Hoodies with the NCHA JCC logo embroidered on them. We recommend that all players attending the weekend have a JCC Hoodie as it is a way of unifying the teams and also to ensure easy recognition of our team players. Adults attending the JCC weekend also have the opportunity to purchase the Hoodie or alternatively there is a zip version for adults only. Hoodies are $45, though check with your Club JCC Coordinator to see if there are any second hand hoodies available. The sizing is on the small side so we recommend getting at least one or two sizes larger than you would normally wear. Sizes are as follows:

Training, Information & Uniform Session
We have been secured the services of Keeper Coach, Pam Dawkins from 9.30am – 11.30am. This is a great opportunity for all goal keepers to have some coaching. Following this session, training will occur for all teams with three sessions of approximately 45 minutes each. Two sessions with coaches from Hockey Victoria (TBC) teaching some of the finer skills required for turf and the other session with their coach and getting uniforms fitted.
When: Sunday 3rd May 2015
Time: This will be confirmed once we have details from Hockey Victoria coaches.
Where: Charlton College tennis courts.
Who: All players, umpires, team managers, coaches and parent helpers.
Why: • Fit out teams with uniforms.
• Get to know who is in your team, who is your team manager, parent helper & coach.
• Do some training with your team.
• Sort out any problems and answer any questions about the weekend.
Each team will have 14 players. In the case where there are more applicants than places a trial will occur on the Training Day. In the event a player is not selected to play for NCHA their registration fee will be refunded.
A training schedule will be sent out closer to the day.
